Unit 2: Sleeping Grins and Stars

Hey guys,

I just completed this journey on relaxation activity. My poor Scarlett has been up since 6pm and it’s now 11:30pm and she is only 2 weeks old! Her tummy was upset so she would eat, dirty a diaper and then want to eat again in a vicious cycle so she was fighting her sleep hard core and would stay in her light sleep mode (eyes fluttering and the sleeping grins). So once bathed, fed again, diaper clean she was just lying there wide awake not sleeping. So I laid her beside me and played the recording. While I focused on moving the blood flow I notice her relax as well and then finally go into a deep sleep and to be honest I dosed as well. I feel like I’m not sure what happened at the end of the recording. This exercise was very beneficial and I wish I didn’t have to move her to type this up! Oh well, time for this mommy to rest while she is too! Goodnight everyone. I really enjoyed this ^_^

  1. Hello Ariel and Baby Scarlett,

Maybe you should play it every night for Scarlett if it works. I listened to mine when I was laying in bed and I feel asleep before the end also. Then I tried it again the next night because I was having trouble sleeping and it worked again only this time I mad it to the end. So my son Cameron that is 11 years old has a baseball tryouts and he is nervous because his Dad will be there and he gets on him a lot. So I keep telling my son the he needs to pretend that his Dad is not there and he will play better. He said it is impossible to do . I said yes it is possible because that is what I did when we lived together. Lol Anything is possible. I need suggestions on how to teach my son to tune his Dad out when he is playing sports. It's a shame because my son is so good at all sports but when his Dad is there he can't focus it is hard to watch. I tried talking to my ex but there is no talking to him. I told him he is making our son hate sports and he thinks he is pushing him to do better. Anyone have any helpful tips? Thanks, Marci

  2. Hello Ariel,

Congratulations and jubilation to you ad your precious bundle of joy baby Scarlett. She's adorable and beautiful. It will get better overtime as she will succumbed to finding her own technique that will bring harmony and relaxation to her. I admired your determination and dedication in caring and nurturing her. Sometimes the first couple of months can be overbearing, but remember they will only last for a brief moment, and looking back you will say to yourself that baby Scarlett and I have endured through it all. Ariel you could also try using different relaxation music in calming her down as I have often seen them work for me as well.
Keep on being the awesome super mom that you are.

  3. Ariel,
Wow how fun that you and your daughter were able to enjoy this exercise together. If I were you I probably would have just waited until morning to type this and enjoyed the silence! lol I really enjoyed this exercise also and started to doze off myself while listening to it, which wasn't a very good thing considering I was at work! I have been trying to start doing relaxation exercises such as this one daily, I tend to get headaches and I found that doing these exercises can help release my stress and lessen my headache.

  4. Ariel,
I found it to be very cute how you and your daughter relaxed and listened to the recording. I had trouble concentrating on what was being said so I had to listen to it three times to fully get the relaxation it was like my brain was going a mile a minute on everything else. Once I was able to relax though it did not put me to sleep it actually gave me more energy than I had before I listened to it about 45 minutes before hand.

I felt my stress level came down a lot.

What are your thoughts on the narrator's voice? Do you think his voice helped sooth you and your baby?

  5. Ariel,

I understand how the recording makes you feel more relaxed and less stressfull, after I listen to the audio recording I started to look up different videos on youtube on mediatation. My step daughter Jannalee who is 5 she has adjustment disorder where every week we go to mental health and she does play therapy one of things that can help is mediatation can help. If do a sudden change in her schedule it's doing a change to a child who has autism when we do a change in her schedule we have to explain it to her I am going to try something this weekend of watching some mediatation videos with her and see if this helps I saw a improvement in my stress level become less after listening to the video.

  6. Hi Ariel,
What a beautiful baby girl you have! It’s so important to have proper rest when caring for an infant. You are to be applauded for continuing your education while experience such a life changing event. After listening to the exercise I experience one of the best night’s sleep that I have had in a very long time. I hope both you and baby Scarlett were able to also partake in a peaceful night’s sleep. Looking forward to reading more of your blogs.

  7. Ariel, this is wonderful. I have a restless kitten who bring havoc at night when he is wide awake running around. I got him to lay down with me and listen to the recording and we do it for a week now and he is already in anticipation of it. I guess it works for both humans and pets.
